Senior Packaging Engineer – The Clorox Company – Pleasanton, CA, US

Position Description
As a Sr. Scientist in Research and Development (R&D) for the Professional Products Division (PPD), you will be a part of a team responsible for driving packaging technical discovery and developmental work for cleaning and disinfecting products. You will help develop new packaging from concept to development, using technical leadership to translate end-user insights into package solutions. You will work on innovation teams to develop products in close partnership with Product and Process peers, as well as Marketing, Sales, Product Supply and Regulatory. From the development of prototypes for cost saving discovery efforts, to delivering new/improved packages for commercialization, you will play a significant role driving innovation in packaging for the Professional Products Division.

Key Responsibilities
Lead package development for new package solutions in design and execute against Technical Discovery objectives, leveraging end-user understanding and package expertise.
Collaborate closely with other functional areas involved in Discovery, including cross-functional partners such as Global Insights, Marketing, Design, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Procurement, Product & Packaging development.
Proficiently identify, select and apply known technology from inside and outside sources (suppliers, experts, etc.) to deliver against end-user needs, create foundational understanding, and drive key business initiatives.
Create prototypes to bring product solutions to life and test with end-users.
Analyze and interpret data to drive technical understanding, meet project targets and objectives, problem solve, and make recommendations that drive efficiency, knowledge, and manage risk

Years And Types Of Experience
5 years of development experience in the consumer products industry, primarily in a packaging development capacity

Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated project planning skills.
Ability to work independently and implement multiple projects in a timely manner.
Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox.

Education Level/Degree
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution required.
Prefer Bachelor’s degree in in Mechanical, Chemical or Packaging Engineering

Preferred Qualifications
Broad and deep package development technical knowledge preferably focused on ready-to-use applications.
Strong technical curiosity and creative problem solving skills with a record of innovative technical solutions implemented.
Passion for the end-user. Ability to use empathy to understand and isolate end-user insights.
Hands-on focus, sound technical judgment to influence team and business direction
Broad knowledge of the packaging industry for CPG companies, suppliers, and end-users.
Experience driving technical and consumer innovation projects, applying innovation behaviors to real-world consumer problems: Consumer Empathy, Risk Taking, Influencing, Idea Integration, &/or Results Seeking.
