Berau Conservation & Blue Carbon Program Coordinator

Berau Conservation and Blue Carbon Coordinator is responsible for coordinate resources in TNC and others to facilitate partners and stakeholder in improvement on management effectiveness of Berau MPA and conservation of important species in Berau especially sea turtle and cetacean. The task is also included community outreach, communication and educational strategies that effectively communicates TNC’s conservation messages and promotes its conservation and community involvement efforts in sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems. This includes ensure model development community based mangrove management that includes in Blue Carbon program and strengthen management of Berau MPA and its constituency from community and related stakeholders. The assignment may include cooperation with local community organization to promote and increase public awareness, facilitate community groups to demonstrate sustainable use of coastal and marine resource in Berau.

Responsibility & Scope:
Implementation of MPA Strategies:
Responsible to implement of conservation project in Berau especially development of Berau MPA management unit and management plan in cooperation with related stakeholder in Berau and Samarinda.
Responsible on capacity building on surveillance of Berau MPA through development of joint patrol mechanism and required SOPs
Facilitate local stakeholders and community groups to practice responsible and sustainable use of marine resources that will include group discussion, assisting, and technical training (organizational/institutional, group roles and responsibilities).
Implementation of Coastal Risk Resilience – Blue Carbon Strategies
Develop implementation planning in field level of for Blue Carbon initiatives in Berau with related stakeholders.
Responsible to ensure implementation of Blue Carbon model in cooperation with district government, local community organization and related NGO in Berau.
Program partnerships and sustainability
In collaboration with ITP team in Berau and ICOP team in Jakarta, organize relevant training and/or coaching to improve the capacity of local stakeholder (local community groups, individual and/or private’s entities and local government) on MPA management and blue carbon ecosystem protection as well as marine-life conservation and sustainable use practices to increase incomes and minimizing the impact to their surrounding marine environment
Assist community based program evaluation in dealing with challenges or threats, through capacity building for communities in observing biophysics and socio-economic aspects, in order to create tangible evidence of their sustainable practices including marine life and fisheries management.
If possible, coordinate with Indonesia Fisheries program, encourage the establishment of community based fisheries data collection mechanism as well as harvesting management that includes yield size, periodic harvesting, processing and marketing as well as sanctions against the level of compliance in targeted location(s).
The Berau Conservation & Blue Carbon Program Coordinator reports to the Coasts and Oceans Program Manager & will be based in Berau. S/he will also maintain close coordination with Berau Program Leader as well as ITP team in Berau. He will also work closely with Marine Resilience Specialist and Knowledge Management Specialist – which base in Jakarta, as well as MarComm team for the development of publication, awareness and communication materials.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Marine Conservation, Environment Management or related field and 5 to 7 years related experience or equivalent combination.
Experience with project management on conservation projects or closely related field is preferred.
Ability to sell ideas to a wide variety of people and interests groups.
Experienced in build and maintain good relation and coordination with partners and related stakeholders
Ability to represent TNC to related stakeholders particularly government and privates
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word, and Excel. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet. Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities and meet deadlines.
